Owens Bottle Machine Co.
Text
The Owens Bottle Company's Glassboro plant on Sewell Street was built after having acquired the Whitney Glass Company in 1917. The Owens Bottle Company plant made use of the new Owens Automatic Bottle Machine, which increased production speeds in the plant. The plant remained in production until 1929, when it was dismantled and stripped of its equipment.
Later, in 1937, the plant was reopened by the newly merged Owens-Illinois Glass Company as a center for making metal and plastic closures for their glass bottles.
In 1989, the plant was sold to the Amber-Hocking Corporation. Today, this building is known as the Route 55 Industrial Center, and is leased out to tenants.
